I have attended UPEI for all but four years since beginning my studies in 1990. As the mother of seven and grandmother of four,  I have always believed in life long learning and have  held the strong belief that  I would obtain a PhD. Attending university on a part-time basis over much of this time has enabled me to find some degree of balance between motherhood, career, and continued education.

Since 2006 I have worked as a counsellor with a focus on educational planning and career decision making. As a woman who has just turned fifty, I am now most interested in working with other women who are entering the "wise-women" third trimester of their lives. Using narrative inquiry to explore the ways in which mature women seek purpose and meaning within their own lives is something that fascinates me very much.

The path depicted in this picture is one that my direct ancestors traveled for the past 220 years in the rural community of Iona, Cape Breton. Like the strong Celtic women who lived off this rugged land while respecting the cycles of nature, I hope to explore new ways of working with wise-women as they search for meaning within an ever-changing world. My goal is that other women will see themselves in these stories and feel empowered to trust their instincts and intuition as they search for life purpose.
